Rockcliffe Aerodites

Welcome to the Aerodites Page!

So what's an Aerodite anyway?

In 1992 a Toastmasters club was chartered at a Canadian aerospace facility located in Rockcliffe (a small community in the city of Ottawa, Ontario, Canada.)

Searching for an appropriate name for the new club, the chartering members, being educated people, hit upon the somewhat punnish name of Aerodites, the "aero" for their location and profession, combined with "erudite" meaning educated and learned.

The facility where the club originally met is now occupied by the Canada Aviation and Space Museum and the club is no longer physically based there; in fact when COVID-19 became a reality the club changed from physical in-person meetings to virtual meetings using the Zoom platform and we continue this at present as our members are somewhat spread out geographically. We may at some future time resume having in-person meetings, but this would be subject to a vote of the full membership.

Ok,that's great.

Now...... What is Toastmasters?

For nearly 100 years, Toastmasters International has helped millions of people become more confident communicators, public speakers, and leaders. The Toastmasters network of clubs using its learn-by-doing program were created to help you gain the skills needed to achieve your personal and professional goals. Why pay thousands of dollars for a seminar when you can join a Toastmasters club for a fraction of the cost and have fun in the process?

You may well be asking yourself at this point, what might be in it for me?

Toastmasters will give you the skills and confidence you need to effectively express yourself in any situation. Whether you are a tenured manager, student, young professional, someone looking to advance their career, or someone hoping to make an impact in your community, Toastmasters is the most efficient, supportive, enjoyable, and affordable way of gaining great communication skills. By learning to effectively formulate and express your ideas, you open an entirely new world of possibilities. You’ll improve your interpersonal communication and be more persuasive and confident when giving speeches, and just in communcating in general.

In short joining Toastmasters can help you achieve your personal and professional goals!
